Mills and crafts

The millworks, with their heavy stone grinders and the many gears and shafts, were ingenious mechanisms.

The vicar and the clerk

The vicar was an educated man who had many functions. He took care of teaching the parishioners the Christian faith.

The livestock

In the 1700s an ordinary farm had 6 horses, 4-6 cows plus a dozen sheep, a pig or a sow with piglets as well as some poultry.

The landscape

Two hundred years ago, the landscape was far more varied: fields, meadows, bogs, forests, thickets and commons with scattered trees.
