The house was built in 1879 and was formerly situated in the village Hornsyld near Vejle. A major part of the equipment is original and allows a complete experience of a cooper´s shop. The cooper´s craft is known from antiquity. The cooper produced tubs, vats, buttertubs and barrels.
A small smokehouse belonged to the cooper’s house, enabling him to supplement his income by means of smoking pork for the surrounding farms. This was a rather common sideline and the cooper was able to use the offcuts of especially beechwood in the smoking process. The smokehouse will be reconstructed at a later date.
